Where in the World is Sommer Wind?

Hey guys! Long time no see. We have some exciting (and not so exciting) things to share with you.
For starters... let's catch up on what has been going on the last couple of months. After returning to the boat in February, we sailed from Puerto Rico, to the Dominican Republic, to Turks & Caicos, and through the Bahamas.

While we were in the Bahamas, we got some news that my (Meagan) dad's health was again declining. Around that same time, Travis got a call from the company he formerly worked for in Oregon that a position had opened up in Denver. After much thought, we decided it would be best to move back home to be with my family during this trying time. So, we did. As our initial plans were to keep sailing for the next 1.5 years, life has a way of happening in the middle of all of our plans. We finished our time in the Bahamas and sailed to Florida, where we pulled Sommer out of the water and put her up for sale in Indian Town.

With mixed emotions leaving the boat, but excited to spend some time with Dad, we moved home at the end of May. I will spare you the heart-wrenching details, but we spent the majority of the summer making as many memories with Dad as we could, as his health continued to decline. The doctors announced they would stop treatment completely, as his cancer was advancing so fast there was no longer anything they could do for him. They gave him 2-3 months left to live.

When we found out this news, we decided to rush a six week wedding in hopes he would make it to our special day and he could walk me down the aisle. Were we crazy? Probably. But then again, we moved to the Caribbean on a boat we purchased without ever having seen, so there's that.

We got moving on the engagement, the invites, the planning, all the while praying Dad would make it that long. Unfortunately, he didn't make even 2 months. He barely made it three weeks. On July 11th, he passed away peacefully in his sleep.

With so much already planned, we decided to keep the wedding date and go on to get married on August 3rd. Which we did and we had such a fun and beautiful day with the best friends and family. Dad even decided to make an appearance by sprinkling us with his tears in a rain drizzle that only lasted for the duration of our 20 minute ceremony.

So, that brings us to today. Where do we go now? Do we go back to the boat and continue traveling? Or do we stay close to home and start our new life here? Ultimately, we decided the latter, and to put the former on hold for now. Travis has so much potential in his job right now, and I need to focus on getting my career in order. I'm currently coaching high school soccer and getting ready to apply to grad school for next fall. We bought our first home and have been loving spending time and healing with my family.

It has been such a rush of a summer. Just three months ago we were dating, living on a sailboat, and snorkeling every day. Now we are married, healing a loss, and homeowners. Crazy.

So why am I telling you this? What is the exciting part of this news? Well that is.... WE ARE STILL TRAVELING AND ADVENTURING! Before we left, we owned a camper van. Due to some crazy fate, we sold her before we bought the boat, and the SAME owner listed her for sale in Washington the day we moved back to the states. We bought her back and have named her Sommer. We will continue traveling in her and taking her on lots of adventures to new places. We are postponing boat life and trading it in for van life, while we get real life in order.

We know for a fact we will be back on the water someday. And someday soon. We plan for after grad school, but before kids. But then again... we've seen how life just happens. And maybe we'll be out there sooner than we know. As for now, please continue to follow along as we take you with us in Sommer on wheels. This will be fun, I promise. :)
