Christmas in the Caribbean

We'll be honest- today was really hard for us. In fact, this entire holiday season has been making both Travis and I very homesick. We miss decorating Christmas trees, baking cookies, and building snowmen with our families. But we know we are living a life and having opportunities that we will remember forever. So, we tried our best to make it feel like Christmas in the Caribbean.

First, we got Christmas lights, a miniature tree, and tinsel (by my request because Trav said "it's too messy and will be found all over the boat for the next year") to decorate the boat. On Christmas Eve, we turned on the lights, put on Christmas music, popped popcorn, and watched The Grinch. On Christmas morning we made crepes then set out for a 5 hour sail to an anchorage on the north side of Guadeloupe. Initially we weren't planning on having to sail on Christmas, but there are some strong winds blowing in from the north so we needed to make sure we got to Antigua before they got too bad. When we anchored, we made a Christmas feast- complete with BBQ'd chicken (we tried for ham but apparently that's not a thing in these French islands), homemade mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. We were so lucky to have gotten WiFi from the boat and were able to FaceTime our family for Christmas.

While this Christmas will forever be one of the hardest for us, it is still very memorable in its own good way. We are on our own sailboat in the middle of the freaking Caribbean. Making mashed potatoes. That's pretty amazing if you ask me.

We miss our friends and family like crazy but also feel so lucky to have such an incredible experience.
