LAUNCH DAY!

We have some exciting news! Last Saturday, November 3rd, we were (finally) able to launch the boat! It was a long time coming and it took the serious help of our new friends Kevin and Erika and their willingness to help us sand and paint to get us there, but we made it. We knew there was still a lot of work to be done, however, so we decided to anchor in the same bay that was 20 yards from where our boat was on the hard. It was free and we needed to get some things done before we wanted to take on a big move.

We've now been here for 1.5 more weeks and have been in no rush to leave. Life is much more enjoyable being on the water. There are wayyy less mosquitoes and it is so much cooler! So it's nice to not have to wake up in the middle of the night sweating to death for once. ;)

The last week and a half have been spent trying to source materials and products we need for the boat, and mostly just hanging out with some friends. We have become very close with our friends that we mentioned in the previous post (Cathy and Markus). Their boat is still on land so we took them out on our boat last weekend to a local island and they were able to help us with our first sail. Keep in mind our boom and head sail are still broken, so it was nice to have some more experienced sailors to help make sure our jerry-rigging was working.

Travis and I were planning on taking off to start heading north today (November 14th), but just as we were getting ready, winds and waves hit these islands. There are 9 foot waves on the ocean and the winds are between 20-30 knots for the next 5 days... These are conditions experienced sailors wouldn't sail in, so us with our half broken boat definitely didn't want to risk it! We are hoping we can get moving this weekend and begin our next adventure :)
